ONE OF OUR BETTER COUNTRY SALES. For over 40 years Richard LaBarge and the late George Kahnle ran a fine country shop – Black Shutters Antiques – in the hamlet of Victory Mills N.Y. Having closed their shop and sold their inventory several years ago, Dick is now downsizing and moving to much smaller quarters. We are pleased to offer country furniture, quantity country ceramics, paintings & prints, and more country smalls from their private residence.

EARLY/COUNTRY FURNITURE early country Chippendale slant front desk in strong tiger maple. Small size dated 1834 blanket box on base in orig red wash. Very unusual Southern? 19thC 5’6” diameter round pine dining table on tapered legs with removable 40” lazy susan at center. Early chest w/4 tiger maple drawers on dovetailed bracket base. Fully restored 18thC English/Irish mahogany Chippendale highboy chest. Unusual cherry lift slant lid schoolmaster’s desk w/drawer below on tapered legs. Early pumpkin pine tapered leg tavern table with single 26 ¼” board top and drawer. Early American wooden works tall case clock with orig painted face and history of belonging to the Col. Ellsworth family of Mechanicville N.Y. Handsome butternut 2 part 7’3” country secretary desk w/ripple moldings. Very pretty floral paint decorated 6’2” deacon’s bench. Sweet small size early Chippendale mahogany 4 graduated drawers chest w/slide-out work surface. Unusually large dough box w/lid on turned legs. Several early 1 or 2 drawer stands – some w/figured maple drawers. Large mahogany tilt-top tea table w/carved pedestal base. Nice assembled set 4 bowback Windsor chairs. Set 4 (1 arm) rush seat Sheraton fancy chairs in orig yellow paint. Handsome set 4 plank seat chairs w/gilt stenciled urn splats. Nice small size 2 part c.1850 mahogany secretary desk. 3 nice cherry or mahogany mid 19thC chests. CUPBOARDS good early 5’2” pumpkin pine cupboard on base with drawer over 2 raised panel doors. Early 6’7” corner cupboard w/8 pane glass doors above paneled doors at base. Nice 6’ pumpkin pine open top hutch cabinet w/paneled doors at base. 7’1” stepback 2 part country cupboard w/pleasing later grain paint, & more Country. VICTORIAN exc orig varnish oak triple door bookcase w/gallery top. Good 7’4” mirrored top fireplace surround in orig var. Handsome heavily carved mirrored top golden oak sideboard. Large “Bohn” 4 door ice box in unusual original gray enamel paint with wood trim. Matched pair Globe-Wernecke 4 section oak stack bookcases (no bases). Handsome c.1910 mahogany 2 part 7’4” corner cabinet w/herringbone inlay (only 30” wide). Oak princess dresser w/shaped bev mirror in orig var.
 
RUSTIC pair early 1900’s horn chairs. Exc full size rustic bed with unusual 2 color splint panels and a fine armchair which matches bed. Exc 30” pair Indian made child’s snowshoes. Good small bear trap. Pr Tubbs snowshoes. Old carved duck decoy w/glass eyes.
 
COUNTRY STORE/ADVERTISING nearly mint highly desirable ©1906 “We Recommend Squire’s” self framed 24” x 20” lithographed tin sign with image of seated hog and “John P. Squire Boston” emblem. Exc 6’4” oak country store seed cabinet w/15 drawers on clerk’s side. Exc early 20thC 26” x 19” lithographed “International Food Co” broadside w/images of Palmer Cox Brownies. 5’7” lollipop top 1¢ coin-operated pharmacy weight scale and 3’10” coin-op 1¢ Art Deco weight scale by Mills Novelty Co. Exc “Elgin National Coffee Mill” double wheel (17” dia) coffee grinder in orig paint.
 
CAST IRON exc 33” cast iron hook & ladder fire wagon in orig paint w/2 horse team, drivers front & rear, 3 orig ladders, and “126” number. Signed Hubley 12” mammy doorstop. Good 13” cast iron pumper fire wagon in orig paint with 2 horse team and driver. 8 still banks incl mammy, “Young America” safe bank, lion, and 5 figural pig banks (3 w/advertising panels). Horse drawn Conestoga wagon and white cottage doorstops.
 
ART good untouched 14” x 20” signed AF Bishop (Am, Alfred F, born 1855) o/c painting of The Hudson Navigation Co ship the “Berkshire”. Pleasing 16” x 22” o/c Lake George ptg. Interesting pair signed F. Hartung oils on brass panels depicting scenes of American Indian life. Mid 19thC 20” x 28” o/c w/cows at stream, goats & herder, and footbridge. Pair c.1841 o/c portraits, & more 19thC paintings & watercolors. PRINTS small folio “The Sports Who Came To Grief” and “Bound To Smash!! Or Caught By The Wool” Currier & Ives. 4 18thC Wm Hogarth engravings with history of having belonged to John Barrymore.
